    In the 2nd Trimester!

    by  • March 28, 2010 • Pregnancy

I had another prenatal appointment Friday at 14 weeks, and everything went well. I met with one of the 2 doctors at the center I go to (the other three there are midwives), and he was really nice. The baby’s heartbeat was in the 160′s, which everyone is saying sounds like a boy. I’m not getting my hopes up too much, but my preference is a boy. I don’t really care either way though, I just pray for healthy! We find out April 27th, so long as the baby isn’t shy! :P
The doctor also mentioned doing a blood test at my next appointment to check for Down’s Syndrome. It’s not the amniocentesis that can cause miscarriage, but a simple, 1 vial drawn from my arm. The test can tell me if the baby is at high risk for developing Down’s. I don’t think I’m going to get the test done, since it can’t tell me 100% whether or not the baby has it, just if it’s in a smaller percentile for possibly having it. Plus, the prenatal care I’m receiving will not change no matter the results, so I figure that’s one less thing I’d have to worry about (because I definitely would if I found out my baby was in the high risk category).

As far as symptoms go, my nausea is almost completely gone, except if I wait too long to eat between meals. I’m trying to stay on top of that by eating every 2-3 hours, but that can be hard because I still don’t seem to have my appetite completely back yet. It’s getting hard to get a full night’s sleep, as I’m trying to get myself to only sleep on my sides. I know as I get further along, this is the only choice I’ll have, but laying in bed for 8-9 hours on just my sides starts to get uncomfortable and I end up waking up 2-3 times a night. If I am comfortable, I’m waking up to pee. Sleeping comes better during the day, though I try not to nap much in fear it keep me from getting any sleep at night.

I decided I need to get more organized with things. I downloaded Rainlendar to keep up with things I need to get done, both online and offline. I’m putting myself on a schedule to blog at least three days a week, and my calendar will be there to scream at me when I need to be posting. This will also help me with my freelance writing, though that’s running kinda slim at the moment. Hopefully I can get some new projects going soon!

    Not So Little Anymore

Today is my little brother’s 16th birthday. It’s kinda depressing, but he’s not so much my baby brother anymore. Being 10 years older than him, we used to be closer than my sister and I were. He’s turned into a teenager the past few years though, and hanging out with his older sister is so uncool now. He’s taking the driver’s test Friday, and it’s scary to think he may be driving on his own by this weekend! XP

I’ve been looking at DSLR cameras tonight, as I’m really wanting to get more into photography before the baby gets here. I’d really like to get a Canon XSi, but I can’t afford the hefty price tag at the moment. Hopefully by picking up some more writing jobs (which I have yet to do), I can put back a little money here and there to get one before my birthday. That would give me about 4 months to learn how to use one well enough to get pics of my little bean when he/she gets here!

    Spring Break

    by  • March 3, 2010 • Home Life

I’m taking this week to enjoy my Spring Break by doing absolutely nothing but sitting on my butt! Okay, so that’s not exactly true. I did land a new writing project this morning, so I’ll be busy the rest of the week knocking out some articles. Other than that, not too much going on.

Last Friday, I had another prenatal appointment. I haven’t told everyone that will listen about my pregnancy yet, but I know how much of a downer it was to go back and tell everyone that I had miscarried. Therefore, this time I had been a little more low key about it…until Friday anyway. I spoke to the doctor about my all day sickness, and she recommended Dramamine (sp?) if I were going to take medicine for it. She believes that the severeness of my nausea is probably being helped by my Progesterone supplement, so I’m only on it for another week. Other than that, everything checked out good and she sent me for an ultrasound, just to make sure everything looked okay.

The ultrasound tech was very optimistic. We got to see the baby moving around and what appeared to be stretching, and we heard a strong heartbeat of 162 beats per minute. He doesn’t think there’s anything wrong at this point, and we got lots more pictures to show off! I decided to come home Friday and let the world know about my pregnancy by posting on Facebook and MySpace. After the appointment, it’s really began sinking in that I’m going to be a mommy!! :D
I also got a new cell phone Friday: the Samsung Rogue. I had decided to get rid of the Blackberry because of the extra data plan that is required. We need to begin saving money for the baby, which means cutting out some unnecessary expenses. I really like the phone so far, though it’s taking some getting used to. I haven’t typed messages in T9 Word in almost a year, so I keep misspelling and typing completely different words.
