2014 Mazda CX-9 Grand Touring – Roomy & Convenient

Earlier in March, I was asked to test drive a Mazda CX-9 to get a mom’s perspective on the vehicle. Since I am wanting to upgrade my Honda Civic to an SUV for more room for my family, I excitedly accepted the challenge!

2014 Mazda CX-9 Grand Touring Review

When the 2014 Mazda CX-9 Grand Touring arrived at my door, the first thing I thought was I loved the color, Blue Reflex. The black interior also a nice plus, as we know from experience it hides juice and other toddler stains well (my husband’s car also has black interior). The body style is one I really like, as it’s rounded in just the right ways and isn’t too boxy like other vehicles on the market.

Mazda CX-9 Navigation and Back Up Camera View

The 2014 Mazda CX-9 actually has the make’s oldest body style, and so it should be getting a total revamp soon. Still, I was amazed at all the features inside. My son immediately hopped in and was amazed by the power moonroof. He loves being able to see the sky as we travel. The first thing I noticed was what I consider mom’s best friend: The 5.8-inch color display for the rear camera, navigation, and Sirius XM Radio.

I think the rear camera is the safest feature on this vehicle. We live in a neighborhood full of children, and with two of my own, I’m always scared to back up in my own driveway. Also on the display, the satellite radio provides us with a variety of music and talk radio to listen to on our journeys. The Tom Tom navigation system allows us to easily travel to unfamiliar destinations.

Mazda CX-9 Roomy Back Area

As far as space, the Mazda CX-9 Grand Touring is a very roomy vehicle. There is ample foot room in both the front and back of the SUV. The 7-passenger seating makes it easy to carry all four of us plus a friend or two. With the third row seat down, there is lots of back room for groceries, luggage, the baby’s stroller, and anything else we would need to carry.

I also love the rear air controls for the backseat. I always worry that my kids are too hot or too cold, depending on the season. I mean, the air takes longer to reach them, so they could be uncomfortable while the driver and front passenger is just fine. Rear air solves this dilemma!

Mazda CX-9 Center Console

The center console of the Mazda was a bit different – definitely nothing I’ve ever seen. The compartment’s lid is made with two pieces. You can open the console without disturbing the passenger’s arm if it’s resting on one side. This would take some getting used to, I believe, but it’s a handy convenience feature!

With all the space and features this SUV offers, I think the 2014 Mazda CX-9 Grand Touring is a perfect choice for moms!

Do you like the Mazda CX-9 Grand Touring? What would be your favorite feature?

WE just went from a mini van to an SUV.. this SUV looks so much better… We bought the Toyota 4Runner and I HATE the lack of space it has and that the trunk area.. or wait there is NO trunk area.

That rear camera is extra peace of mind! I always breathe a sigh of relief when I get out of the driveway and back into forward motion. It’s a really nice looking vehicle too. Love all the features!

    the cargo area is enormous!!
also, i ADORE the body color. that’s so pretty. i’ve never actually chosen a color for a vehicle before :(

I LOVE the idea of the center console being split in half. I always have to ask the passenger to move their arm when I want to grab my sunglasses or USB cable. That can be annoying. Pretty cool feature. Wish my card had this!

Looks like a really nice car. I was debating on if I should get a Mazda SUV a year ago but decided on a Toyota RAV 4.

I like that the Mazda has a rearview camera feature, that comes in handy!

Looks like a great car and I’m loving how roomy it is. That’s so perfect when you have strollers and a ton of other stuff to carry around!

That center console is such a neat idea. Especially for long trips when my husband has his arm resting on there and is asleep and I end up waking him up because I have to get something out of there.

That is one fine ride! I’ve been wanting to get an SUV but haven’t been able to decide which one. I am also not sure if I want a car payment lol.

I would really really like this car for myself. We are in the car market now and this would be one I would definitely consider.

What a gorgeous color! I love how the center console can be opened on one side if the other passenger is using the arm rest. Nice!

This is actually a lot like our car that we got after baby #2 arrived. We have a Dodge Journey. I decided to get the 3rd row because it can come in handy sometimes. There’s no room in the back then for stuff, but most of the time the 3rd row is folded flat down anyway. I love the option to do that!

  12. says

I am loving that center console! It also makes it look like you have more room to spread out in the front. In one of our cars, the seats are so close together we knock elbows, lol.

What a great rig! I wouldn’t mind going to check out this, looks very roomy. Appreciate you sharing more about it, without bloggers sharing their vehicles with us I wouldn’t ever know what’s out there.
