Are you expecting a child and want to create your own birth plan? Are you trying to conceive and want to get an early start on these decisions? Then Birth Plan for Dummies can help you make the right choices for you and your unborn baby.
I want to start this review by saying I love the “For Dummies” books! I have read a few on different subjects, and they have all been so helpful. I love the style of the books and how easy to understand the material is. I plan to use one to learn how to use my new camera soon!
Anyway, back to Birth Plans for Dummies. When I first found out I was pregnant with the kiddo, I had no idea that the mom-to-be had SO many choices to make. Who did I want in the room? Did I want to do a regular hospital delivery or to have the baby at home? Did I want an epidural or not? The list of questions seems never-ending!
All the decisions can be overwhelming, but this book really helps you walk through the choices you need to make before you go into labor. It’s a terrific book to begin reading the moment you find out you are pregnant, so you can be prepared and know exactly what you want. The knowledge that you have made created a birth plan ahead of time can make labor and delivery a lot less stressful.
Inside the book, you will learn about many popular birthing methods such as the Bradley Method and Hypnobirthing. I personally used the Bradley Method (or as much of it as my hospital would allow me), and while it worked for me, it would have been nice to know more about other methods as well. This book fills you with valuable information on that and so much more so you can make all of the right decisions for you.
The two authors of Birth Plans for Dummies are both experts in their fields. Rachel Gurevich is a fertility writer and has a few other books under her belt, a couple of which are highly recommended readings for doulas. Sharon Perkins, RN, has over 20 years experience in the field of maternal and child health. Both know their stuff, and you can feel comfortable taking the advice of these two women as you read this book.
I am glad to have a copy of this book for my second child. I think there are some things I will be doing differently, and I am happy to have a book to help guide me with my birth plan decisions the next time around!
Disclosure: I received a copy of this book as part of the “For Dummies” ambassadorship program. All opinions are 100% mine!

I feel like I did it all wrong because I wasn’t in charge of anything. This is so smart!
They have a dummy book for everything! Love this!
This sounds like a great book – perfect for expecting parents
thanks for the post
It is great to have a book to walk you through and help you answer your questions
Hi! I just wanted to thank you so much for the review, and I’m so glad you like the book! As one of the authors, that of course makes my day. :-) May I ask if you’d be willing to post a review at Amazon.com? I’d really love to have some reviews there and so far we haven’t got any.
Thanks so much again!!
Rachel
