Creative toys are helpful to young kiddos for a number of reasons. They foster the development of important skills as well as foster imagination. Citiblocs are no exception to this, and I was excited to review their 100-piece Cool Colors Set with my son.

Citiblocs are made from New Zealand pine, and I can’t help but think they have a nostalgic feel and look to them. So many toys nowadays are made with plastic, it’s nice to provide Sawyer with something a little different when I can. Plus, they are very eco-friendly!

The 100 pieces come in a range of “cool” colors, including blue, turquoise, dark green, lime green, and natural. I like these shades and the fact that they expose children to more than just the basic primary colors.

Sawyer was very interested in these blocks when James pulled a few out of the box. He knew they were different from his other blocks that interlink in one way or another. With these, however, you have to learn concentration so you can stack and turn the pieces different ways in order to construct something grand.

Along with the pieces came a booklet with building ideas. While our son wanted to build steps again and again, James built the different structures in the book – until the kiddo notices and plowed them down, that is! Since we’ve gotten them, Citiblocs have been a fun way for the two of them to spend time together in the evenings.

Citiblocs products have won several awards in the past few years. Some of the most recent honors include the Oppenheim Toy Portfolio 2011 Gold Award, The National Parenting Center Fall 2011 Seal of Approval, and the Goddard School Top 10 BEST 100% Kid Tested Preschool Award. I like that my son can play with toys that are known to be some of the best out on the shelves!
