A Healthy Twist to your Hot & Cold Sandwiches

We are big sandwich eaters in this house. We always have ingredients for basic sandwich creations on hand, and I think my son would eat a PB & honey sandwich three times a day, every day if we’d let him!

I recently heard about Flatout Hungry Girl Foldit Flatbreads, which are perfect for a healthy twist on sandwiches. I decided to take a trip to my local Walgreen’s in order to see more of the selection and pick out some to use for our lunches this week.

There were two options in the store, and I decided to try the 100% Whole Wheat and Flax first. I do want to go back and get the Rosemary & Olive Oil soon.

A few sandwich fixings that I didn’t currently have at home also when into my cart. I wanted to go beyond my usual turkey, lettuce, and cheese sandwich when using the Flatbread for the first time.

Though I wanted something different to make with the Flatbread, I still wanted easy. With a toddler in tow, you can’t spend too much time on your own lunch. So, I decided to use the Flatbread for a classic hot sandwich recipe, the Ham & Swiss Melt.

Ham and Swiss Melt with Flatout Hungry Girl Foldit Flatbread

Ingredients:

  • Flatout Hungry Girl Foldit Flatbread
  • Sliced Ham
  • Sliced Swiss Cheese
  • Pickle spear (Optional)

Creating the sandwich involved adding one slice of Swiss cheese and 2-3 slices of ham inside the Foldit Flatbread. I then folded it over and popped it in the toaster oven. I left the sandwich in for about 5 minutes, until the bread was toasted and the cheese was melted.

I love pickles with my sandwich, so I added a spear on the side. With a handful of pretzels, this was a very good lunch!

A couple days later, I decided on a cold sandwich for my Flatbreads, an Italian Chicken Sandwich.

Italian Chicken Sandwich

Ingredients:

  • Flatout Hungry Girl Foldit Flatbread
  • Grilled Chicken Strips
  • Lettuce
  • Shredded Mozzarella Cheese
  • Fat-Free Italian Dressing

All that this sandwich requires is the assembly! I put some chicken strips straight from the fridge on first (which worked perfectly for the leftovers we had from dinner the night before). Then I added lettuce, shredded mozzarella, and just a drizzle of the Italian dressing.

Flatout Hungry Girl Foldit Flatbreads offer a guilt-free option for sandwich bread. The Whole Wheat and Flax are only 90 calories, and the Rosemary & Olive Oil (next on my list to try) are only 100 calories each. They are also a good source of fiber and are quite filling.

With all of the recipes listed on the item’s website, I have lots of sandwich inspiration!

I love trying new types of bread products because they make sandwiches, pizzas, etc feel unique and different without being so different that I fear that iw on’t like the flavor

Love Flatouts. We use a different version for pizza. Kids love to make their own pizzas and it’s really healthy.

The cheese oozing out of the ham sandwich looks really good! I’ve always been a fan of flatbreads because I can still eat a yummy sandwich without all of the breadyness.
