Nutrisystem Week 6: Training for my First 5K! #NSNation

Yet another week has come to a close on my Nutrisystem journey! I am very excited about this week, due to my progress as well as a decision I made.

My sister has been participating in local runs and races around here for a while now. I want to join in, but honestly, seeing the word “5K” scares me. That’s over 3 miles!! I have done a couple 2K’s in the past, but they were actually designed for kids so I felt totally out of place.

However, I have decided that I am going to prepare myself to participate in my first 5K in December. I am not sure what I am getting myself into, because it will probably be quite chilly the day of that race – but I am going to suck it up and just do it!

To get prepared, I am going to use the Couch to 5K iPhone app. I have heard many great things about it and it can be completed in 8 weeks. It’s about 10 weeks until the run, so that gives me extra time to prepare or make up any days I may miss in the training. Not that I plan to allow myself to skip days, but let’s be realistic and assume life could get in the way a day or two!

Using the C25K will benefit me in many ways:

  • Ensure I get 3 days of exercise each week (I plan to do strength exercises the other days)
  • Help me increase my distance while hopefully shortening my time
  • Push me to become a better runner
  • Help me lose weight/inches!

I’m excited to start using the app today – and I may update with my progress every now and then on my weekly Nutrisystem post. Now, onto my results for the week…

This week I saw a very nice loss of 2.4 pounds!!

Week 1 = -3.0
Week 2 = -1.2
Week 3 = -1.0
Week 4 = -1.4
Week 5 = -0.0
Week 6 = -2.4
Total Loss = -9.0

I am only 1 pound away from my first NutriBear!! My goal is to be getting it next week – I am sure I can lose that last pound by then!

  1. What great progress on NS. I am on week 13 and love it. I use to be a hard core runner until knee surgery a few years ago. And yes, I use to run 5K’s and loved them! The biggest thing is pace yourself and train just like you are doing. Best of luck and keep up the great work. You go girl!!!

    Great job! I have found that the more I lose, the more I love exercise. It just makes you feel so good! I run daily now but do it more on the treadmill when the kids are asleep.
