When it comes to my skin, I haven’t had a ton of trouble in the acne department. I will say that I get the occasional pimple every now and then, but I know people who have experienced much worse. I guess I was lucky most of my life – until pregnancy changed all that for me!

With my first pregnancy, I don’t remember my acne worsening any. I would still get a blemish here and there, but nothing like this one. I am now 23 weeks pregnant and I have probably dealt with 10 or more zits in that short period of time. Some say it’s because I was pregnant in the summer, but I was pregnant during the warm weather last time too!

I agree that I sweat more when I am pregnant, but I don’t think that’s the only reason for breakouts. I think it’s just a natural thing that you may have to deal with more when you are carrying a baby. Regardless of the reasoning, I knew I needed to do something above my normal cleaning routine in order to get rid of the pimples I had and to help keep others from reoccurring.

My solutions?

How to Prevent or Eliminate Pregnancy Acne

1. Began using a facial moisturizer. I read online that dry skin can be a great way to get pimples. The moisturizer goes on twice a day, morning and night.

2. Keeping my hands away from my face in an attempt to reduce the amount of dirt and oil that could clog my pores. I also wear my hair up more so that it stays off my face.

3. Changing my pillow case every 4-5 days. Yes, that’s a lot, but do you know how much dander and dust can accumulate on the pillow? And then you rest your head on it for 7-8 hours each night? No wonder the pimples come in droves!

4. Switching to Clearasil’s NEW! Daily Clear Refreshing Superfruit Cleanser. My old face wash wasn’t doing the work at thoroughly cleaning my face, so I knew I had to try something new. The cleanser is also available in a scrub or pads. I wanted something gentle that I could use in the shower (busy moms doesn’t have much time to pamper!) so I opted for the wash.

Clearasil’s NEW! Daily Clear Refreshing Superfruit Cleansers is an acne medication that is gentle enough to use every day, twice a day. They are formulated with sensorial Superfruit Extracts AND are gently medicated with 1% salicylic acid acne medication to help prevent blemishes.

I’ve been using the cleanser for almost two weeks and I can already tell a difference. I am actually pimple free at the moment – YAY! Since my skin is too fair for any make up I’ve ever bought (and I don’t feel like wearing it anyway), finding this wash allows me to look my best during pregnancy with little effort! Plus, there’s no pain or irritation from pimples in my life!

I was actually very lucky in that my doctor said it was OK to continue my prescription cream (Tazorac) during my pregnancy. Good thing because my acne was miiiiiiiserable. Someone even told me so, which made me want to crawl into a hole and die.

I just entered my third trimester and this past week my acne has gotten really bad, especially on my forehead and cheeks. Any make up I use to cover it up seems to only make it worse. I didn’t know this face wash was available I’ll have to check it out I’m also looking into some homemade face masks that I can use in my down time.
