In an effort to be eco-friendly, James decided that we needed the start recycle last Fall. The problem was, we didn’t really have anywhere to store the recyclables until he took them to the local center. Thankfully, Rubbermaid makes some excellent recycle bins, like the 2-in-1 Recycler we were sent to review.
The first thing I noticed about this product was how small and narrow it was. It actually takes up to 25% less space than other divided recyclers on the market. I wasn’t sure it would hold much of anything! However, I was soon proved wrong once we put it in the kitchen and started filling it with paper and plastic. There are two sections, that the different types of recyclables can be separated as soon as they are stored. This makes it easier for us when it comes time to bag up the items and take them to the recycling center.
The bottom bin can work with an 8-gallon trash bag, which makes removal even easier. There is a special locking system that keeps the liner from slipping down into the bin. That is a huge pet peeve of mine when it comes to doing the trash, so I am very thankful for this small feature! Both bins have a hand so that you can easily remove them from the base when emptying.
This may sound silly, but having the Rubbermaid 2-in-1 Recycler in my kitchen makes me want to recycle even more. Before, the paper and plastic would usually be stacked on the counter beside the garage door until my husband took it out. Guess what kind of appearance that gave my kitchen – yep, a messy one! With this product, though, we are able to reduce our carbon footprint while also having a place to store the soon to be recycled materials…one that is out of sight! The bin even matches our trashcan which it sits beside!

i have been recycling for 5 months now and i am glad to especially when now i have room in my trash for actual trash instead of recyclables going in the trash also, except it is hard to keep recycling without a container to keep all of it in because right now i have it all piled up on my kitchen floor and in a box
I have started becoming more self sustaining as possible. I have started growing my own vegetables, just started raising chickens for eggs. Will be composting soon. Have been recycling for as long as I can remember. Would have an electric car if I could afford one!

I’m currently focusing on being more eco-friendly in terms of laundry! I have an eco-friendly washer and an eco-friendly dryer. I try to run them only at night (when electricity rates are lower – cheaper too, yay!); I wait until I have full loads; and I wash most things on cold.
I hang clothes on the clothes line when the weather is good.
