The time has come to introduce potty training into our home. We have been letting the kiddo watch his Potty Time and Elmo DVDs, just to get him used to the idea. We decided to also get a potty chair, so he can become familiar with the idea of using it. When Summer Infant sent me the Story Time Potty, I knew it would be perfect for my son.
Setting up the potty chair was very simple. There were a few instructions which were easy to follow. My husband took it from the box and put the pieces together and then I placed the eyes and mouth stickers on the back of the chair. It was ready to use in about 3 minutes!
We placed the potty in the guest bathroom and decided to just let the kiddo discover it. It didn’t take long from him to wake up from his nap to find something new in the bathroom. From his videos, he knew it was a ‘potty’ and immediately started calling it that. We showed him how to sit down on it and allow it to read to him.
I was worried that he wouldn’t want to have anything to do with the Story Time Potty, but I was wrong! He walked over to it, grabbed the book, and sat down (still clothed, but hey, it’s a start!). The buttons are easy to find and for a toddler to push when he wants to potty and look at the book. The story about Freddy Frog is a couple minutes long, enough time to hold the kid’s attention while they go potty.
The fish also has a button that says “hip hop hooray!” We have been telling the kiddo that the fish button is for AFTER he potties, but it usually gets pushed midway through the story!
The bucket that captures the ‘mess’ from potty time can be easily lifted out for disposal and cleaning. There is a little lip built in at the front that helps prevent a mess when little boys use the potty. The top of the potty chair can be used on a regular toilet to help with transitioning. Also, the base flips over to make a helpful step stool for hand washing and teeth brushing!

I don’t know why, but for some reason I keep thinking about how funny it would be if there were buttons like that on a regular grown up “potty” – you could really scare the you-know-what out of someone!
this is fantastic..my son just turned 3 and he wants nothing to do with being potty trained !
I am going to have to check this out!
I’m glad I’m not the only person whose mind works like that
Very cute product!
This looks like a fun potty training seat to use! My grandson is about 2 1/2 and we’re thinking about training soon. This would be helpful and maybe spark some interest in him!
I have been looking for a potty that could get my son to actually think about using it and this looks like the one! I will be coming back to enter the giveaway for sure. I love the interaction between the book and potty.
That looks awesome! My three year old would never poop on the little potty, he had to use the big potty. A potty like this might make it more enticing!
What a cute potty! I like the that it has extra edges to help hold “things” in, lol. Especially for little boys! I just finished potty training my almost 3 year old and in the beginning, even when he did make it to the potty, I was cleaning up messes from it not catching it all. Thankfully he uses the big toilet now and learned to stand up – whew!
Thanks for the review!
This little potty is so cute! My daughter”s best friend just had a little boy. She’s potty training or trying to train her little girl. I have to tell her about this. I’m glad I had a girl because my cousin told me it was so hard to potty train her son. I always kept lots of M&M”s on hand when I potty trained my daughter and my 2 neices. A reward is so important, least I think so. Good Luck to you all teaching your kiddos how to go potty! Thanks for the review!
That potty looks so cute!!! Thanks for sharing your review!!!
This looks great! My son is not quite yet at the potty training stage, but I’ll have to remember this potty when the time comes. The frog is so cute
What a cute product! My son is not at the potty training age yet but I’ll certainly remember this one when we’re in the market!
Looking for a creative way to potty train my stubborn 1.5 year old. She wants so badly to be like her big sister, but seems frightened of the BIG POTTY. :-)’
This potty chair looks like so much fun!
Wow ~ quite a fancy potty. I haven’t heard it before your review. Thanks for sharing!
This is the cutest seat! This chair might actually make my grandson interesting in potty training!
that extra encouragement can be very uesful during the potty training – it should be as easy as possible for both mother & child
What a cool idea- combining a potty with something kids actually like to do! My daughter loves books so I’d love to try this out when she starts potty training. I also think the “hip hip hooray” is pretty funny- nothing like a little cheerleader for going to the bathroom!
I know most people don’t comment “Cute” when talking about potties but this potty is very “Cute”. Getting a child to sit on the potty is the greatest battle and this would keep them entertained long enough to sit there.
LOL All I keep thinking is, “It’s time to sit on your frog sweetie.” I think my son would like that.
Such a cute potty very original havent seen one like this.
I love Summer Infant products. I love the idea of a Story Time Potty to help them learn. (Also am loving the step stool.) I will be wanting one of these when My Sky is ready for it.
I would have loved to have this 14 years ago when i was training my son!
I love how this adds a fun feature to the potty and makes it less of a chore and less scary for kids
I love the concept of this product. I think it can really help encourage kids to want to use the potty and help with potty training.
This is really cute we just got one potty trained two more to go!
This might be the cutest potty I’ve seen! I love that it reads to them. How wonderful. It’ll encourage my LO to stay on the potty long enough to actually go!
2 great things that make a momma so proud .. reading and going potty !! and all in 1.. Love everything about this.
What a cute little potty. I love the book cubby on the side
Haha, okay prepare yourself for this comment of the day…..
HE POOPED AGAIN TODAY….in the potty…..initiating it on his own…..TWO days in a row!!!! WHOOP WHOOP Holla!!!!!!!! REALLY, this is HUGE! I’m a Mom of 3, have gone through 2 in diapers at once, and this is my baby! So it’s about to be final! After almost EIGHT years of diapers……YYYYYYYYAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY! I am just beside myself excited! I love these kids, I cherish every minute with them, who they are today, and wouldn’t trade them for anything! But this is definatly not something I’m ashamed of being excited for!
As for the potty, LOVE it and would give it to my nephew if I won! The cubby on the side is super cool and may keep their interest on the ‘task at hand’ if the right item was in it! Trust me, I know how important that is!
Thanks again!
cute potty chair and love they have a place for books…great idea!
I love that it has frogs all over it. I am going to have too look into this for my little frog. He is just about ready to start training.
What a fantastic product. Such a great idea to get kids involved in reading. what better to do while on the bowl lol
My daughter loves books and frogs, so this potty might get her interested in potty training!
this is so freakin adorable.. the only thing that would make it better is if it was pink!!!
A froggy that talks! how cute! Hip hip hooray!!
We are potty training or (newly) 3yr old (june 11th) & he seems to find it boring. We use a Baby Bjorn, which I found to be ergonomically comfy for him, but no frills. At first I thought it might be too distracting for him. Now, sometimes, I think that some excitement might do him some good. There’s only *SO* exciting mama can be when singing Itsy Bitsy Spider for the 10th time in 5 minutes
He’s been played out on stickers, lollipops (from the dentist… sugar free with xylitol
and will always go poo on the potty. He also goes to preschool 3 days/wk & goes consistently there (minus needing a new pull up frequently only after nap)… but when it comes to the house, he will go on the potty if he is naked (which we do quite a bit to help with training) but is backing off from what was such an GREAT start to going pee in the potty when he’s wearing his pull ups. Oh, and HOW COOL that you can put the pot on the adult toilet! I wonder if ours does that too? hrm? I’ll check next time I go in the bathroom. I just recently switched to cloth trainers (GroVia) last week & they work AWESOME! I think that maybe having a story time potty would interest him because my boy looooooves to read!! Going to the library for new books is the equivalent to Disneyland… well, okay, not *quite* that exciting, but almost! hehe. Thanks!
P.S. I would love to see a picture of how the potty turns over and can be used as a step stool!
I love this potty chair & that it has a place for a book! We have the cars one upstairs, but I borrowed one for our first floor area. This one is cute & it would work great for our needs. Maybe even get my son to use it!!
What a wonderful idea. Now the kids can be like the adults who read in the john. LOL!

I have a 4 & 2 yr old. The little guy copies everything his big brother does and he tries to go petty like a big boy. I think this potty chair would be perfect for him because he loves books. This would only help make training him easier.
I wish these Potty Seats were as “creative” as this one when I was potty-training my son. He was so scared to sit on his chair. This chair is so “inviting and friendly” for the little ones.
This would make potty time more enjoyable and interesting…and that’s what we all want.
We won’t be needing this for a very long time, but I think its super cute!
We are right in the middle of potty training!! would love this
Love that it has a little spot for a book
