Last night, we took Sawyer to see the live show, Super WHY Live: You’ve Got the Power! The kiddo loves watching this on television, so we hoped he would enjoy the live event just as well. This is Super Why’s first live tour, and they sure did not disappoint!
I love the upbeat music they played before the show and again during intermission. It helped get the kids in the mood to sing and dance for the show. The Super WHY Live logo was prominently displayed above the stage when we entered and stayed there throughout the show.
When it was time for the show to begin, the room darkened and smoke and confetti flew into the crowd when Whyatt came out on stage. The rest of the characters were introduced as well and there were lots of songs, some from the TV show and others that were apparently written specifically for the live tour.
I love the background screen, and the fact that characters emerged from it or went into it to become the animated version!
The story line followed a similar path as the ones on the television show do. There was a question asked and the team of Super Readers had to look in a book to find the “Super Story Answer.” The characters engaged the children in the audience a lot, which I think makes the show (both on TV and live) so successful.
There were lots of extras added in on stage and on the screen that made the live event even more fun. For example, when Wonder Red wanted to do a super high flip, there was a performer on the other side of the stage twisting and flipping with aerial silks.
I think this was one of the best live events I have attended. The songs were catchy, my son sat through the entire thing without getting antsy or fidgety, and it was a great live reproduction of the TV show. I highly recommend it if there is a show coming to your area!
