    My Little Laptop

    by  • August 20, 2011 • Ramblings

Only 11 more days left of the Veracity blogathon! I am proud that I have made it over halfway.

    Today’s prompt:

Post a picture of your computer(s). When did you purchase it? What do you like and dislike about it?

Here is my Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop.

I bought this laptop in February 2009 when my last Dell laptop pretty much died on me. I chose a laptop because I like the convenience of being able to take my work anywhere. At the time, I was an avid Dell fan…I have only bought computers from Dell. With this being my third laptop from them in 7 years, I think I am going to try a different brand next time. This one is already starting to have problems. A few of the keys are sticking and difficult to use (backspace and left CTRL, very commonly used keys, and the B key). I don’t know much about internal specs…I let James pick out what he thought was best for me.

    Couldn’t Do Without Them

    by  • August 12, 2011 • Ramblings

Still going on the Online/Gadgets theme, today’s blogging prompt is:

What are some of your must have programs on your computer? For those with smart phones or tablets, what are some must have applications on your devices? List no more than 5 for each.

I will start with my computer first.

    • Microsoft Word. Really not sure what I would do without this program. I use it for SO many things. Since I am a freelance writer, I need it to compose blog posts and articles for my clients. When I was in school, I needed it to create essays, lesson plans, and just about any other assignment I had to turn in for school. I have also used it to create flyers, banners, invitations, and lots of other stationery related items. Needless to say, this is probably the most important program on my laptop!
    • Photoshop CS4. While I do not know how to work over half of it’s functions, Photoshop is still very important when it comes to working with graphics. I am learning more and more about it each time I use it and have to look up tutorials. This is the program I use to create headers for my sites. I also tinker with photos that I have taken using PS.
    • Windows Mail. Without this, I wouldn’t be able to check my domain related emails…at least not easily. I have two emails (both business related) set up through domain names to make them look more professional than just having a gmail account. I would never remember to login to my cPanel to check the emails, so it’s nice to be able to use Mail to have access to them.
    • Microsoft Excel. Another program that I use often for a wide variety of tasks. This helps me keep my life organized. I have so many different spreadsheets it’s not even funny. James and I use Excel for our monthly and yearly budgets. We have all of our bills included as well as the dates James gets paid. Money that I contribute gets put in as well. I also have spreadsheets for Christmas shopping, work assignments, freelancing payments, and product review deadlines.
I think that’s pretty much all of the “I would do without this” type programs on my computer. Now, for my iPhone:
    • Find My iPhone. Though I have never actually used it, I am SO glad that the guy at the Apple store put this program on my phone before I left with it. I would be in a panic if I were to ever lose my phone, but knowing that I could find it with the assistance of this app makes me feel safe.
    • Facebook. Since I have the Facebook app on my phone, I rarely check it when I’m on my computer. It’s much easier to keep up with my timeline, messages, etc. Plus, I get notifications when someone comments of sends a messages, so I can quickly and easily check it on my phone.
    • PayPal. This app lets me quickly log in to see the balance of my PayPal account. This is so helpful because sometimes I forget how much money I have. If I spend too much, the remainder of the money will be taken out of our bank account, which is not always a good idea!
    • Mail. Another reason that I have become more dependent on my iPhone and less dependent on my computer. I love having the ability to instantly check my emails, as well as get notifications as soon as I receive a new email. In the past, I have missed out on freelance work because I didn’t have a phone that allowed me constant access to my email accounts. Therefore, this is definitely a must have for me!
