My Mountain Day Weekend
- by Kecia
My weekend was packed full of things to do. Saturday, we went to my sister’s Mountain Day activities at her college. I’m not sure why I never attended this event when I went there…it was a lot of fun. First, there was the Grand March, an annual tradition involving all the students walking up and down a hill…it’s something that’s been done for years and has a lot of meaning to it. After that, we took a tour of the House of Dreams, a nice house on the side of the mountain that was once used for famous people to stay in when they visited the college. The only name I heard tossed around was Theodore Roosevelt, so that gives you an idea of how old and important the home is. We grabbed dinner after the tour, and then came back to the campus to watch a play called “Getting Out”. It was really good. The day ended with “Marthapalooza,” a carnival like activity featuring rides, games, live music, and lots of food.
Yesterday was a bit more relaxed, other than the usual school and house work that needed to be done. I sat down and mapped out my weekends for the rest of the semester in my planner. I mainly just indicated what needed to be completed or studied for each weekend, so that everything gets done. It seems that after next week, things will slow down a bit. I’m sure December will be here before I know it with everything I have to keep me busy!
James and I also played a lot of LEGO Star Wars yesterday. We are SO addicted to the LEGO video games for the Wii. We already beat LEGO Batman (my favorite so far), we purchased LEGO Indiana Jones last week at a new video game store that opened up here, and I will be getting LEGO Harry Potter as soon as it comes out later this month.
I Love Long Weekends
- by Kecia
I absolutely love 3 day weekends. It doesn’t matter that I don’t work full time or have anything to do on Monday…I love the fact that James is home for an extra day and I can spend more time with him, my family, and my friends. This extra time has contributed to shopping and game nights this weekend.
Yesterday, James and I left our house with the intentions of going 3 places: the college library, Wal-Mart, and a local used bookstore. We started at the library, where I printed about 25 pages for next week’s classes. I really wish my professors would become more environmentally friendly, and then I would just print at home. I don’t want to waste all my ink in a short amount of time though, as it would be gone in a month with the amount of things I have to print daily. We then went to Wal-Mart to get my oil changed and tires balanced, but with their wait time being 2 hours, we decided not to get it done.
My mom called us then, and said that her and my sister wanted to go with us to the bookstore, but wouldn’t be ready to go until about 3 or after because they were going to my great aunt and uncle’s 50th wedding anniversary party. It was only 1:30pm at the time, so James and I had some lunch, then stopped by GameStop and purchased Lego Batman for the Wii. It’s such a cute little game! When we finally met up with my mom, we ended up going to a clothing store similar to TJ Maxx and Marshall’s (New clothes, but last season’s styles so they are marked down drastically) first. I got a pair of gray dress pants and a dress shirt for just $18. We finally made it to the bookstore, and I purchased one book for myself and about 10 children’s books for my future classroom (an early start, I know!)
We also hit up the mall, which has a Barnes & Noble inside. I ended up with 4 more books: Frostbite and Shadow Kiss from the Vampire Academy series, The Essential 55 by Ron Clark (for the teacher in me), and Where The Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak (for a lesson plan I have to do in class). I know I really should consider purchasing books online, but when I go into a Barnes & Noble, I cannot leave empty-handed. After having dinner in the food court and stopping by Wal-Mart for groceries, our exhausting but fun day was over.
Today has been MUCH more relaxed. We’ve just been laying around the house, doing laundry, and playing video games. We are about to start dinner and my mom and sister are coming over. My step-dad and brother are gone camping for the weekend, which explains why we’ve had to entertain them all weekend.
We are going to have yet another game night. Our last one was Friday night, which involved 6 people playing a few hands of Skip-Bo. Tonight will be more geared toward board games.
Addicted to Facebook Apps…

Yesterday was fairly productive. James and I got 2 loads of laundry done, I wrote 2 articles (though I planned to write 10), and I read 1 of the chapters for school. I’ll admit, I don’t get anywhere near as much stuff done as I wanted to, but that just means I’ll have to do some things today. I have to read at least 1 more chapter, finish the laundry, and write 5-10 articles. I’ve been lounging around all morning, so I will get to the “to do” list as soon as I finish blogging.
In my defense, I did have a reason why I didn’t get anything accomplished after 4pm yesterday afternoon. James was having a friend over so they could go running and hang out. His friend calls about 4:30pm, asking if his wife can come and if we’d like to grill out for dinner. They had a rib-eye steak that need to be cooked soon, and they could bring over some baking potatoes as well. We agreed, as we had some turkey meat we could grill for ourselves. James ran to the store to grab salad mix and bread, which left me to straighten up the house. I wasn’t going to make that much of a deal of it if it was just his friend coming over, but his wife hasn’t seen our house so I didn’t want it to look like a pig sty. We cleaned up, showered, and started the grill before they got here around 7pm. Dinner was yummy, and they left soon after. James and I broke out our SkipBo deck and played a couple games before falling asleep.
Another reason I didn’t get much done was because of those darned Facebook Apps. When they first started becoming popular, I swore I wouldn’t play them. They were actually annoying to see so many wall updates regarding the various games. However, I was bored one night a couple weeks ago, and decided to try out Sorority Life…and it was all downhill from there. My favorite apps at the moment are Farmville and Farmtown, and I also play Roller Coaster Kingdom and Yoville. I won’t allow myself to get sucked into any others, as I really don’t have time to play the ones I currently enjoy!
