One of my friends was in an automobile accident the other day, and she posted on Facebook about it. It had me thinking about my last accident…well, really it was more of a hit and run. It happened back in late 2007, just a few weeks before Christmas. James and I left a store and got into our separate vehicles (we had met there after he got off work). As we were on the interstate going home, he calls me and tells me there is something flapping on my car. We get off at the next exit so we can look at it. The area of the back of car between the bumper and my back tire is damaged, and it was causing it to flap in the wind when I was doing 75mph on the interstate. We came to the conclusion that someone had hit my car in the parking lot earlier and then drove off.

We drove the car home and called our insurance company. We had to take to the local body shop that does auto estimating. Three days of a rental car and a $500 deductible later, I got my car back in like new condition. I hate that whomever hit us had the nerve to drive away. I’m assuming they didn’t have insurance, or just didn’t want to take the blame for their stupidity…so instead, we got the foot the bill for it.

This weekend consisted of cleaning, cleaning, and more cleaning…with a little work and shopping thrown in. Saturday, James and I thoroughly cleaned the living room and kitchen. That evening, I alternated between playing video games with him and working. While he was gone to Pennsylvania, I bought him Need for Speed Undercover for the PS 3. He only had one of the game (Little Big Planet), and he enjoys racing games so I surprised him with it. Back when we had the Nintendo Game Cube, we had Need for Speed Underground 1 & 2. This one just isn’t the same, but I like it nonetheless.

Sunday, we got up and James took Sawyer to meet my mom so he could go to church with her. On the way home, James grabbed a newspaper for the coupons and breakfast. After we ate and got ready, we headed to town for groceries and few other things. I was able to get 4 Cascade trial packs of their dishwashing action pacs for free with my coupons. I also got a few jars of baby food for free as well. We also got what we hope is Sawyer’s last container of formula. It’s a bittersweet moment to know that we soon won’t have to pay for formula anymore, but that only means our little monkey is growing up.

After shopping, James and I came back and finished the rest of the house. We cleaned both bathrooms, our room, and Sawyer’s room. I started to tackle the guest bedroom, but just couldn’t get into it. So, I just organized the clutter a bit instead. You can now walk though it! We also wrapped Sawyer’s presents and filled the favor bags for his party. Later, we went to my mom’s to get Sawyer and eat dinner. It turned out that they cooked fish, so I munched on a few hushpuppies and fries and then ate dinner when I got home.

While I was preparing leftovers (mashed potatoes, beans, carrots, and peas) for Sawyer, I look over to see my step-dad feeding him fish. I told him to stop, that Sawyer isn’t supposed to have seafood. Of course, I got the third degree for that. He asked why, then his mom’s long time boyfriend started talking about it too. It wasn’t enough that I just said not to feed him fish.

So I got mad and ranted a bit about how tired I was of everyone trying to feed MY son what they thought he should be eating, and how I am just going by what his doctor said. I don’t want him to have an allergic reaction to something. It would be an embarrassment to me if I had to take Sawyer to the doctor and tell him that he ate fish and had a reaction, because I know his pediatrician would be thinking, I told you no seafood… It would make me look like a bad parent, even though it wasn’t me doing the feeding.

When I sat down to the table to feed Sawyer, my step-dad sarcastically said, “Well did his doctor say he could have potatoes???” And I looked at him and said, “He didn’t say he couldn’t…” He didn’t speak to me for the rest of the time we were there. I am sure it isn’t the end of the food battles, because there are many others in my family that love to just fill him full of chocolate and whatever else they can get him to put in his mouth. However, I’m tired of being so passive about it and will be putting my foot down from now on because my son isn’t going to be raised on junk food and be overweight by the time he’s 10 like I was.

Today’s blogging prompt for the Veracity Blogathon is:

What are some of your pet peeves? How do you handle them if someone is doing them?

When I read this prompt, my immediate thought was bad drivers. If I could only get annoyed about one thing in the world, it would be people who cannot drive. It infuriates me when people act as though they are the only ones on the road. The worst thing is being pulled out in front of or cut off…and it’s really annoying when they do this just to go 2/10 of a mile up the road and turn. Not using blinkers is another driving related peeve.

Aside from driving, I don’t really have that many things that I would consider to be a pet peeve. Below is a few others that I can think of…

Being hung up on

People changing plans at the last minute

Those who don’t take my freelance writing seriously (they think I can just do what they need me to and work later)

SPAM (and I don’t mean the pseudo-meat!)

The way I handle them really differs based on my current mood when they occur. If I am in a good mood and someone who cannot drive cuts me off, I may just be slightly annoyed by shrug it off. However, if I am already not feeling the greatest, a pet peeve can really set me off. I have been known to cuss and honk at drivers on occasion As far as the other pet peeves, I will usually brush them off or tell the person that I don’t like being hung up on, my plans being changed last minute, or that my job is real and I have do work in order to get paid!

This weekend is went from bad to good and is now just, blah… It started bright and early yesterday morning when I got up at 5:50am to meet my mom at a new flea market here in town. It’s a really nice place with large, clean bathrooms, a grill that serves breakfast and lunch, lots of covered tables, and even a Ferris wheel! We rented a covered table together, which cost $12 to do. It was actually three tables connected to form a U, and we could stand in the middle and have access to all of the things we were selling.

We were there until almost 2pm, and I made the most money I have ever made at selling old stuff we no longer wanted, needed, or used. Even with living in a neighborhood, we can’t get much traffic if we have a garage sale here at home. However, I managed to make $111 dollars minus the $4 my mom wanted me to pay for my part of the table. We had a lot of big stuff though, such as James’ PS 2 and all games, 2 DVD players, a Dell printer, my old Microsoft Zune, and a Rockband drumset for the Wii. I sold most of it way less than I should have, but still made a nice addition to our vacation fund. We are going back in about 2 weeks to see if we can get rid of more of the clothing (especially Sawyer’s) that didn’t sell.

I got home yesterday afternoon and decided to take a nap. I was running on less than 3 hours of sleep since I was up until 3am Friday night. When I woke up about 3 hours later, I noticed it was unusually hot in my house. I checked the thermostat, it said it was 84 degrees…though the A/C was set on 74. James had went with my mom to take Sawyer to see my granny, and the moment he got home he started checking things out. He ran back out to the hardware store to get a filter to see if that was the problem…sadly, it wasn’t. Then he went out and checked the A/C unit, and noticed the fan wasn’t turning.

He decided to turn off the A/C, open all the windows, and turn on all the ceiling fans. It wasn’t too miserable in here last night, but it was a little humid. Today, he turned it back on again to check, and the fan still won’t turn. It’s not too hot in here yet, but we figure by mid-afternoon we are going to be sweating. We will probably be going to the pool to stay cool until it gets dark so the house will be manageable again.

James said it could be the fan motor, which could cost $80-$100 to replace, not including the labor costs that will be involved with that. I have a feeling that the money I made yesterday, which was going to be added to our vacation fund, is going to be gone when the A/C repair man comes…

I feel like I have ten thousand things to do, and apparently catching a cold is one of them. I blogged Saturday thinking that I may be getting strep throat, but is seems to be just a bunch of congestion and junk. This morning, I woke up with a runny nose and sneezing along with the sore throat, which isn’t typically found with strep throat. I also do not have a fever, which is almost always accompanies strep. So, I’m going to wait it out and take DayQuil and NyQuil rather than go to the doctor today. If it gets worse, I’ll definitely be going tomorrow. James’ sick time at work covers himself as well as his family, so if I am sick, he’ll be staying home to watch Sawyer while I lock myself in our bedroom to keep from giving it to either of them.

I hate getting sick anytime, but getting sick when you have a mile long To Do list is the worst. I have so much I need to get done both online and offline, but all I want to do is sleep until my head clears and my throat stops hurting. I don’t really have much of an appetite today either, so another thing I’m having to do is force myself to eat. It’s not fun at all when every swallow hurts…

Today marks my 15th consecutive day of blogging for the month. Ecstasy’s Project Blog has kept me motivated to write a little something every day…and I am really enjoying it. Though, today’s blog is going to be a bit boring, as it’s done in a hurry so I can finish the writing assignment I’m currently working on and study for tomorrow Statistics final. After tomorrow though, I should be free to sit down and actually write something good!

I took my last Children’s Literature test today, made an 84. Not very happy about it, but I took too long looking through the book for the answers and almost ran out of time. That’s what I get for not actually reading the chapters beforehand! I’m still waiting on two grades to be posted online for that class, but I’m pretty confident I made an A in there. That just leaves me to worry about Statistics. I had a 96 average before taking yesterday’s test, which will not get back before the final tomorrow. I hate that it’s a cumulative final…there’s just too much stuff to pile into one test! My professor gave us a review test though, so hopefully if I look back over it tonight, everything will stay with me until the test in the morning.

So, my new cell phone was supposed to arrive today, but thanks to USPS’s crappy service, the Express Mail I requested (but didn’t pay extra for, thank goodness!) is pretty much meaningless. The package arrived in my city at 11am, was attempted to be delivered at 11:40am (I was at school), and then sat on someone’s truck until closing time today. Around 4pm, the tracking information was updated to say they left a notice. I went by the post office at 3:30pm to try to pick it up, and they said a carrier still had it. Once I saw the update to the tracking, I searched my front porch and mailbox for a notice….there isn’t one out there. Hopefully it won’t be a pain in the butt to go pick it up at the post office tomorrow…
