What is one of your favorite layouts you have used on your current blog site? Or one you used on a past site. Why is it your favorite?

I do not have the knowledge nor talent to create my own WP themes. I have tried several times to follow tutorials and teach myself, but I end up getting frustrated and finding a pre-made that looks somewhat decent. I have become quite picky on how my themes look though, and I will scrape one and look for another if one little thing is wrong. Therefore, I really should learn how to make my own.

I found a very easy to customize theme, and the results are the layout you currently see. I really like it because it’s the width of the screen. There is a lot of white space, but at the same time there is just enough color to make it a bit bold. I really like the color scheme I used as well.

Even though I didn’t do a whole lot, I am running on little sleep and want nothing more than to go to bed! I still have a ton of things do to, sadly, so it will be a while before my head hits the pillow.

Moving on, this week of blogging prompts for the Veracity blogathon are focused on the internet and all our gadgets. Today’s prompt is:

What was your first ever website called? What was it about? How long did you have it?

My first website was opened in June 2007 on the domain name, IamKecia.com. I have been blogging online since 2005, but have always used free sites including Livejournal and Vox. In 2007, I was ready to try my hand at WordPress, so I registered my first domain name. It was a personal blog, though I also did sponsored posting on it after it was old enough. That is actually how I made my first dollars online.

IamKecia.com was used as my personal blog until February 2009, when I wanted a fresh start. It was then that SouthernGirlRamblings.com was born. IamKecia.com was opened until the following June, which is when the domain name expired. Since then, I have opened and closed a number of other sites, such as What-I-Think.org (used to be my review site) WinnerAtALosingGame.com (was a weight loss site), and TheDomesticLife.com (now maintained by my mom).

I really want to be able to make my own themes for SouthernGirlRamblings.com, but I usually get too frustrated. I know very little HTML and even less PHP, and I don’t have the patience to teach myself how to make WordPress themes. However, with Artisteer, I am able to design something unique without needing to actually code it myself. So, after 45 minutes of playing with the software (and playing with Photoshop to make a simple header), the site now has a new look!

Less than 24 hours before we are on our way to the beach! Can you tell I’m just a little excited?? :)

I wish I could so that I wouldn’t have to depend on premades. I am reverting back to a premade I used a couple of years ago. I know it’s been that long because the author section in my sidebar still said I was 24 years old. I hate that I have to use premade themes, because I always find something wrong with them. I happened to find one I really liked today, but after uploading and activating it, there was a fatal error that prevented me from seeing the WP admin. I have no clue what happened, but I had no other choice than to log into my cPanel and delete it.

The problem I have as far as making my own themes is that I cannot teach myself. It’s weird, since I’m going to college to be a teacher *cough*wheneverIstartback*cough*, yet I don’t have the patience to teach myself new concepts. I have read many different WP, CSS, and PHP tutorials online since I started using WP in June 2007, and I am still no closer to making my own themes as I was in the beginning. If anyone knows a VERY simple and easy tutorial that will take me by the hand and walk me through creating me own, please let me know!

I have no excuse, really, because I was home and had plenty of time to get it done. Ugh, this frustrates me to no end. It’s my 3rd time trying to blog for 30 days straight, and my third unsuccessful try. Things like this make me want to go and delete my entire website from my cPanel. A bit extreme? Probably…I just don’t understand why I cannot remember to do something every day for such a short period of time!

I have nothing else to say tonight…maybe I’ll pick up with Project Blog tomorrow.

My HostGator service was great, but a monthly fee was not cool. Even though I purchased the new hosting around Valentine’s Day, it was at the end of March before I got up the nerve to move all the blogs I maintain. I have never moved from one host to the other with so many blogs ( 2 of which are not mine), and I was so afraid I was going to mess things up.

I finally took the leap and got everything moved over. I set up my mom and James’ blog the first day, but my writing blog and this one have been on the back burner. I finally sat down tonight and got everything working right again. The theme is back and the plugins have been installed (with the exception to FlickrRSS, because I just realized I haven’t activated and set it up yet!) I have been so very bad at blogging lately, but I just haven’t wanted to update, or take the time to fix the blog all back up. I’m back now though, so expect some ramblings from me every now and again!

This year is flying by so fast, and January was crazy busy. I have tons of schoolwork already, as we started our field placements sooner than we did last semester. This means less time to get things done. I also found out in January that I am pregnant! I will be 7 weeks along Friday. I’m super excited, but at the same time, nervous. Every day closer to getting out of the first trimester reduces the worry though. I’ve already had one prenatal appointment, and got to see the little bean and its heartbeat!! <3 <3

Other than that, I haven’t been doing much. I’m trying to get back into writing so I can earn some money to spend on the baby. It’s a slow process because all the morning sickness is making me want to do absolutely nothing but lay around, as is the fatigue. I hope it gets better soon, cause I’m tired of nibbling on crackers! :yummy:
