Ready for the Weekend
- by Kecia
In my last entry, I forgot to mention my new Dell laptop arrived in the mail last week. I love it!! It’s running Vista, so I was afraid it would take some getting used to, since I’ve used
for the last 5 years or so. My last laptop came with it, but since we bought it about a month after Vista came out, we bought all the Vista bugs as well. I ended up begging James to reformat it and install
after having it just 2 days. With this one though, I have enough RAM to actually run Vista well, and I am really liking the new OS. It’s going to come in handy to have a new, fast running laptop for college.
Yesterday, I took the CAAP exam, which was required to graduate with an Associate’s degree. It was a fairly easy exam, and doesn’t count against me. I only had to do one section…Reading. Why couldn’t have gotten an easy section like Math? I was ready for it to be over with as soon as I got in there. My Environmental Science teacher finally posted my grade yesterday morning, and I finished the semester with A’s in both classes! I haven’t gotten a chance to register for fall classes yet, but I’m going to be giving the education department secretary a surprise visit on Monday morning to hopefully get that taken care of.
I also went to a Future Educator’s club meeting Thursday afternoon. It was a lot of fun, and I signed up to become a member. Networking is a great way to get through the 2 years of the teaching program. You meet a lot of people, and learn to depend on each other. I got a taste of what I’ll be doing the next 2 years of my life…mainly being stressed. I learned that I have to get rid of my procrastination habit by August if I want to make it through the program!
Today was spent doing absolutely nothing. James came home early, just because. He scared me to death because I was watching videos on my laptop, and I thought I heard the puppy moving around in the living room, then I heard footsteps in the hall. Apparently, the noise I heard was actually the front door quietly opening and closing. He deliberately trying to give me a heart attack!
We were up very late last night, so we napped most of the evening. Now, at 9:30pm, he’s wanting to go out for dinner and then to Wal-Mart. Night owls, we are!
Tomorrow, we are scheduled to do a road race in the morning. If the rain keeps up, however, we won’t be walking/jogging. Not sure what’s planned for the rest of the weekend. I’m ready to just be lazy, as last weekend was consumed with school, and next weekend will be consumed by graduation and my cousin’s weeding.
Better than I thought

It turns out I did well on the Environmental Science test I had Monday. When I first received my graded test, it had a big fat 76 at the top. However, the key my professor used to grade these tests was wrong, so everyone’s grade was wrong. We went through them in class, and I believe I actually made an 88. I’m much happier with that. I will get the final grade on Monday, after she has went back and re-run them through the scantron machine.
I am so excited that I only have 7 days of classes left to attend! It’s going to be weird not having to get up and go anywhere every day after May 8 (graduation). Since I am graduating, my grades have to be turned in a week earlier than everyone else’s, which is why I will technically be finished on April 29.
This week has been so busy for me. I was accepted to write at two more content writing companies, so I have had more work this week than I have in a long while. This is okay, since it means more income! I am now updating my writing blog with weekly goals that I hope to accomplish. I hope this makes me more accountable for what I get completed each week.
Tuesday, after weeks of cussing my current laptop, we decided that I should get a new one. This one is 2 1/2 years old, but it runs like its 10 years old. It freezes a lot, and Firefox and other programs crash often. James just reformatted it back in February, so I am just really tired of dealing with it. I ordered one that has a bigger hard drive and more memory, so that I can run more programs without bogging it down. I think that is the main problem…I just to do too much at one time, but sometimes writing and research requires me to have several tabs open, plus I keep Yahoo! messenger running most of the time, and I have a couple of tools I use when writing articles that have to stay open as well…I guess it’s just too much for this poor ol’ laptop to handle!
Mail Woes

Last week, I realized that I had misplaced the sync cable for my Zune, which meant I couldn’t charge or add/remove songs to it. Since I had a dead Zune, I decided to break down and buy a new cord. I found a combo deal on Ebay where I got the cord to connect the Zune to the computer, plus two adapters that could go onto the USB end of the cable…one to change it into an AC adapter and the other to change it into a car charger. Not a bad deal for $7.50 and free shipping!
I purchased it last Wednesday, and as of today I still had not received a shipping confirmation email. I messaged the seller today to see if it had been shipped. He/She assured me it had been shipped, and according to their tracking information, had been delivered at 3:07pm today. It was 4:00pm when I received this message…and I was a little annoyed because I hadn’t received anything. I thought it was going to be a “I sent it, sorry…” case where I was going to be out my $7.50 since I hadn’t purchased insurance. I messaged him back asking for a tracking number, and also telling him that I contacted UPS and they stated there was no package delivered to my address, nor was there a package en route to my address.
As soon as I messaged him, I went back through the listing. That’s when I realized that it was shipped through a method called UPS Innovation, which is a service of USPS…which means it would be in my mailbox! I went out to the end of the driveway, and sure enough, there it was in the box. I came back in and send another message telling the seller not to worry as I had received the package. I felt like an idiot, but I had never heard of USPS having a service for UPS…I thought they were two seperate entities!
Needless to say, I now have a charged Zune with a few more songs on it…ready for my trip to school tomorrow!
