The Top Children’s Shows Dominating Our TV

Children's TV ShowsMy son isn’t a very big fan of television, but when he does want to sit still long enough to watch, he knows exactly what he wants on the screen. Luckily, we have Netflix, so we can have his favorite shows playing any time he wishes. It’s funny to see how his tastes have changed, just in the last 9 months (he started getting interested in TV around 1 year old).

We don’t allow him to just sit in front of the television all day long, but I don’t see the harm of children’s shows in moderation…especially when most of the ones he watches are also educational.

1. Mickey Mouse Clubhouse

This was the first show to ever catch the kiddo’s eye. Before we turned on Disney Jr., he didn’t really pay any attention to the TV. Even when Disney Jr was on and there were other shows playing, he didn’t seem interested. However, it seems the “Hot Dog” song won him over. He can know sing a few words of the song while making his stuffed Mickey dance.

2. Sesame Street

When we decided to get Netflix and use it as our primary form of television entertainment, we introduced Sawyer to Sesame Street. We had PBS on Dish Network, but never thought to tune into the channel. The kiddo immediately fell in love with Elmo (“Moe-Moe”). He still loves him and Sesame Street is probably the most requested show in our house.

3. Curious George

Okay, this is probably the least educational show we allow the kiddo to watch. It doesn’t really teach much, except maybe how to get into trouble – yeah, it’s probably not a good idea that he watches and gets ideas for mischief. :P  He loves monkeys though, so I am sure that’s the appeal.

4. Super WHY

We’ve begun watching this show recently, and every now and then, he will request “WHY!” It’s a cute show and very educational…and gives me a break from Moe-Moe every now and then! :)

What are your children’s favorite shows at the moment?

  1. My favorite is Sesame Street. But my daughter loves Sponge Bob and my son is absolutely in love with Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. They both really like Doc McStuffins (or Doc McMuffins as my son calls it!).

  2. Melissa says:

Super why for sure!! Top fave in this house!

  3. Lee says:

We are past this age now but we did love all of them. I would our house favorite was Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. We would dance to the “hot dog” song at the end of the show.

  4. Jo-Ann Brightman says:

These first three children’s shows have remained good for years – both entertaining and educational. I don’t know a lot about SuperWhy – I shall have to watch it.

  5. Danielle says:

My kids love all of the above. Current obsession? Curious George. So glad it’s on Netflix!

  6. Sue Hull says:

My 4 yr old neice and I love the watching all of the above. She loves Curious George and Super Why. She really learns a lot from Super Why.These shows are so educating so that’s why I let her watch them. Thank you for sharing.
