Not only does being a work at home allow you the freedom work when you want, dressed how you want, you can also work where you want. However, your preferred location may not be the best for you. Many WAHMs find it difficult to work where they do not have a structured environment. Others wouldn’t dream of secluding themselves and would much rather work around family. The choice is yours, but there are a couple things you need to think about.

Space – Where you do have ample room to get your work done? If you can manage to fit a desk in the room you want to work in, that is idea for many of those that work at home. Having your own space reduces the chance of important documents or other things getting misplaced. A dedicated area is usually best for most WAHMs.

Productivity – As I mentioned earlier, this will depend on the WAHM in question. Do you need complete – well as much as you can get with the kiddos in the house – in order to focus and get work done?

If so, you may want to choose a location in a room away from the family.

A bedroom usually works great. Even if you don’t have a spare room that you can convert into a home office, just having a chair or desk in a corner can give you the space you need to be productive.

On the other hand, if you are completely content with working around playing kids, the television, and other distractions, a desk in the family room can work just fine.

These are the two main considerations for choosing a work at home location. Depending on your situation, you may find that the area in which you work changes often. Thanks to laptop computers, you can take your work with your anywhere you go. If you need a change in scenery, for example, you can take yourself outside or down to the local coffee shop.

Oh how I need to re think where I sit!!! Actually this is a very important issue with me and I also think it’s a good idea to change things up every so often as well as put some personality into your work area. LOL! I should heed my own advice more often…LOL!

Fortunately, I am lucky enough to have an office in my home. I sometimes work in the living room in the recliner, though, with my two dogs in my lap. :)

  5. This is my biggest problem. I am working on getting a great desk or something like that. Right now all my work is done on the couch and it causes issues and takes me longer to do.

It is so hard to work at home with loud birds screeching in my ears, and the TV blaring. I like to work in my bedroom where it is quiet!
