One of the most common characteristics of a military family is their need to move often. Since the family member in the military must relocate from base to base, the family has no choice but to pack up and move each time. This can be difficult if you have children, but you can make it easier for them…using the following steps below.
First, however, I want to share this infographic with you…
Tips for Military Families on the Move
- Provide your children with a much stability as possible. If the mom stays/works from home, strive to continue this process no matter how often you move. Having that consistency will make moving each for most children.
- Always consider the school ratings in the areas in which you plan to move. Even if you don’t have kids yet, you will want to be aware of how well the schools in the locality perform, for when it comes time to send your own little ones for an education.
- Consider living off-base. While it can be more convenient to be in the middle of it all, living away from base can also offer benefits. You can find nice neighborhoods in your area that are full of children, making it easier for your own to make friends quickly.
- Think about homeschooling. If one parent will be home during the day anyway, homeschooling can give you and your kids a more stable environment. Even if the location changes often, they will always know their teacher!
